How to do it:

First of all put a cardboard between the two parts of the bag, in order to protect it.

Hello everyone!

I hope you are having wonderful holidays! 🙂

Today, I am showing you three simple crafts related with the story Sharing a Shell by Julia Donaldson.

From my point of view it is a very good story to do in summer, so let’s get started!

Age: 3-6

Recomendations: It is a very simple activity, and perfect for little children. I recommend you to use as much glitter as you can! They love it, and the final result is really good!

  • Some shells
  • paintings
  • glitter
  • paintbrush

The idea of this activity is to decorate shells. There are many options and many different techniques to do it! Here you can see some of them!

Firstly paint the shells as you like using shinny colours. You can also add some glitter, decorations or adhesive eyes to make it funnier!

Age: 6-12

Recommendations: To do this craft, you would need some hot glue, so take care with it! It is important to take into account that the shells and decorations should be added at the bottom part of the candle. If you do it on the top, the shells are going to fall because of the heat.

  • a candle
  • some shells
  • some wool or thin rope
  • hot glue

To do this simple and beautiful craft, you can use different materials. Firstly, paste the wool or the rope on the candle. You can use some hot glue to paste it. Finally add the shells as you want.

Age: 8-12

Recomendations: To do this craft, I recommend you to use bigger shells.

  • Shells
  • Hot glue
  • A key chain
  • wool

The last activity is very simple, but in my opinion is the best. It is easy to do and the result is amazing. To start, paste the wool on the shell with some hot glue.  Later add the wool on the key chain. You can add as many shells as you can!

Here you can watch my video on youtube!

Teacher Tag

Hi teachers!

Sorry for beeing out… I’ve been into many things these weeks… But today I am coming with something really special!

THE TEACHER TAG! The idea of this tag is to know me a little bit more as a teacher! I am very happy to present you this idea…so.. let’s get started!

1.How long have you been teaching?

I haven’t got many experience as a teacher to be honest, I’m 25 years old…. I’ve been teaching since 2013. I started working in an English Academy, and after one year I had the oportunity to work in a school since this year.

2.What ages have you taught?

I’ve been teaching grade 3 and 4 of Primary, but I have some experience with younger and older students in Primary. In the past, when I was working in the Academy, I had some classes with adults; and it was nice.

3.How many students do you have in the class?

I am very lucky to have normally 20 students in the class. I say normally, because we try to work with smaller groups in the school. There are 2 groups around 28 students in each year, so we try to do smaller groups as much as we can.

4.What do you teach?

I am teaching English in year 3 and 4 of Primary, but I am also teaching Science! I really like the subjects I teach. It may seem something silly, but in my opinion it is very important to be happy with your job…

5.Which is the perfect ratio?

As I said before, I am lucky to be working with 20 students most of the time, but with no doubts, 15 students would be something amazing!

6.Cooffe or tea?

Cooffe please!

Resultat d'imatges de coffee please

7. What is your favourite online resource?

I think that my favourite online resource for students would be Kahoot. It is very easy to use and the love it! Many posts before I did a collection of online lessons and webpages you can use to organie them . Here you can read the post.

If we talk about teachers, I would recommend Pinterest! I know it is something “old”, but I always find what I need.

8. How is your perfect class? And your perfect school?

It may sound strange, but there isn’t a perfect class or a perfect school…

Resultat d'imatges de school Rita serie

But I would choose a class outside! Or if it is not possible, a classroom near the playground. I love doing activities outside, and it would be so nice to have a space near the garden!

About the school, I want to recommend you a Netflix serie; I am completely in love with the school structure and organization…

9. What is your favourite part of teaching?

My favourite part of teaching is… TEACH!

Stay with the children, learn with them, see how they are, meet them… It is really exciting when you see a little change or progress in a student. I enjoy a lot my classes, preparing them…

10. How is a perfect teacher?

In my opinion there isn’t a perfect teacher… But we are all good teachers. It is important to know that everything you do and prepare with love, it will be good.

On the other side, I like to say that a good teacher is a person who is honest with himself and the students in his class. The key is to be yourself and try to improve everyday.

Well… that’s all for this week! I hope you like the post! 🙂

DIY SALAD (Speaking activity)

Hi there!

Today I am sharing with you a very simple and useful activity you can do with your students.

Or Englush lessons this term are about food, and as you know, I like to do different activities. As I explained in the video “Planifica tus clases” it is nice to mix different activities during a lesson, and today I am showing you a speaking activity that really works!

Make the students speak and practise vocabulary related to food.

Make them learn and use specific structures.

In order to make your students participate a lot, I recommend you to join your students in pairs. This way they need to use the language to complete their worksheet.

The idea is to make a perfect salad for your partner. To do it, they have to ask questions to their partner. Each student would make a salad by asking thier partners what are their favourite ingredients.

It is important to give them the vocabulary and the structures they would need ( Grammar). That’s why they need a worksheet with all the vocabulary and the pictures, with a grid where they can find the structures they would need to ask or answer the questions.

STRUCTURES (1)And here you have the final result! It was really nice to do this activity at class, because it gives you the oportunity to know your students better. With the last group, I also make them design my favourite salad.

I really hope you like it!

Lots of kisses 🙂

Discovering schools

Hello teachers!

Some days ago I had the oportunity to visit an amazing school in Catalonia. It is a public and small school in a village near Vic. I am working in a big school, with lots of students and teachers, and it was really interesting to know how a small school works.

The first thing that I really like was the idea of having the hangers outside in the corridor. They also have a little cloth bag that they had decorated at the beginning of the year. They use it to bring things at home. As you can see in the pictues, the furniture is so simple, and they normally adapt it depending on the students, interests, needs, projects….

The general idea of the school is to work and learn through investigation projects. Students learn to work like this since they are in pre-school. This way of learning makes them more independent and confident. They learn by investigating and by doing; something really challenging for teachers and students.

In the following picturies, you can see some examples of the projects the students were working in. Students were woorking on them when we visited the school, and they were so excite and concentrated on their project.

The first picture shows a project that really impressed me. All students this year are really excited with these spinners. A group of students in that school were working on the design of “the best” box to keep spinners. They had to investigate and work with different materials, mesures, shapes….

The second picture was a project made by students in grade 1… They are so sweet… There were a group of little girls building their own supermarket.

The next picture shows how a group of students in grade 4 were working on making clothes. It was really interesting, and also difficult.

Finally, the last picture shows a final work of a students that were investingating the GRAVITY. They used these weighing scales to mesure their own weigh in each planet.

Another idea that I found really interesting was that when students arrive at school at 9; they have a session of ASSEMBLEY. They talk about anything students or teachers want to talk or debate. Sometimes, they stay 10 minutes, but they can stay 30 or 45 minutes if they think they have to.

The flexibility and adaptation are two important ideas in that school, and that’s something I really appreciate. The spaces are really nice decorated, and everything ( materials, books, tools, toys…) is accessible to all.

I really enjoyed that day. It was amazing learning and watching a real situation where another methodology works. The idea that students are the centre of their leaning process is very important in this school. I just wanted to share with you my experience and my visit in a different school. I really hope you find it interesting and inspiring!

Kisses and Hugs

Barefoot Books

Hello everyone!

Sorry for beeing out many days, but I’ve been sick…

Now I am feeling better, so I can share with you more ideas that I hope you find useful!

Today I am coming with a collection of books/songs/stories I am obsessed with! I am talking about…

They have a very nice collection of books and songs perfectly adapted and ready to be used in class. In my opinion, they do a very beautiful and magic material. It is nice, because they offer you 3 formats of their stories; SONG – BOOK- VIDEO.

This week I am presenting you three of their books with some ideas to work with and printables to download! 🙂

Let’s know a little bit about it: Up in a balloon is a nice song that talks about many different things related to the Earth. There appear transports, parts of the earth, animals, habitats… So we have a huge variety of topics to work with.

Tips: When you want to work on a song, I always recommend to use TPR and try to connect a gesture with words of the song. This way, your children would be more engaged and it will be easier for them to learn the song.

Activities: There are many different activities to do with this song. As I said before you can work many topics. I decided to work on something easy and simple: BALLOONS. So HERE you can download the pdf with all the activities for your students!

Let’s know a little bit about it: It is a funny song to do with children, because it is an additive song; it means that the same structured is repeated and the only thing that you have to do is add new words or elements.

Tips:In my opinion it is perfect for children around 6-7 years old. It is a very nice song that is perfect to wok on the marine animals.

Activities: As I said before, it can be nice using the song to work on the marine animals, so I prepared some activities that you can download HERE.

Let’s know a little bit about it: Asthe title of the song says, this is a song about PIRATES! It is one of my favourite songs from this collection because it is different. It is also one of the most difficult songs of the collection( maybe the most), but the vocabulary is perfect for working with children.

Tips: I recommend you to use this story with children around 10-11, because the vocabulary is more difficult.

Activities: The main topic that you can work with this song without any doubt is “The Pirates”. You will find many different activities and materials, but I decided to prepare something simple. HERE you can download it. I hope you like it!

That’s all for this week!

Lots of kisses!

Perfect books to read in May

Hello teachers!

This week I come with my favourite books for this month! They are nice and perfect for this season, because you can do many activities outside.

Of course, there are many books, but this is my selection.

A perfect story for young and older children. Nice to read it alone or in groups. It is my favourite because you can use it in many different ways in class!Resultat d'imatges de we are going on a bear hunt

There are lots of materials online, videos, songs…

From my point of view, the best way to use this book in class is telling it with the song and gestures, and make your students act out the story at th end (for example).

SQUASH AND SQUEZE (Julia Donaldson)

Resultat d'imatges de squash and squeeze

This is another nice story created by Julia Donaldson. As I said in other posts, she is one of the best children’s books author. Her books have something special that catch you from the beginning.

This is a very funny story, with difficult vocabulary. So, from my point of view it is a good story for students around 11 years old.

STUCK (Oliver Jeffers)

Of course my list of books has to include a story by Oliver Jeffers… In this situation I recommend you the funny story called Stuck. It is a tale that talks about a boy and his troubles.Resultat d'imatges de stuck oliver jeffers

In my opinion it is perfect for year 2-3 (7 and 8 years old). The vocabulary is not easy, because as many of his stories, the text is in past tense. Also the objects that appear in the book are complicated.

There are some resources on the Internet, but I am using this story in class as a traveling suitcase, and my students are building a kite with different materials. So… it can be perfectly adapted.

Resultat d'imatges de goldilocks and the three bears mike and carl gordonA classic story, but very nice to work specific structures. It is perfect and easy to work with. You can do many different activities with it ; for example a short play.

Simple activities like sequence the story, change the end of it, or watch the video of the story, can be very interesting.

I am sure you will know this amazing story from Eric Carle. This is a classic story, and forResultat d'imatges de the very hungry caterpillar little students. I would recommend it for children around 4-5 years old. The vocabulary is very simple, and the pictures are perfect for children on that age.

You can wok on colours, fruits, numbers, days of the week and the life cycle of a caterpillar.

That’s all for this week!

The Gruffalo

Hello teachers!

This week I am coming with something really special and important for me…

I am sure you would know the story and the character, because it is an ICON for the English literature. Actually, it is an icon for the children’s literature.

I was lucky to know about this beutiful story during my years as a students at University.  I remember that day perfectly… Our teacher told us the story as good as he could. He had something special while explaining the story… something magic…

Now that I am a teacher, I understand why… It is such a pleasure to read and tell The Gruffalo.

So… If you are teachers, this is a MUST! Every child MUST know and listen to The Gruffalo. That’s why I decided to give you some ideas to use this story in class! Hope you like it!

Present the story as something important, special…

  • Bring the story in a box…
  • Bring some pictures of the characters…
  • Present the forest where the story takes place…
  • Give them the name of the story …

After presenting the story, show them the cover, this way they can start doing predictions.

Resultat d'imatges de box

Screen Shot 2015-01-18 at 12.05.55 PM.png

During the story, I always recomend you to use the TPR. As I explained before, the idea is to give your students some instructions to do when hearing specific words.

You can also give them a picture of the characters, and they have to “act out” when their character appears in the story.

Julia Donaldson stories have a special rhythm , and it is perfect to “learn” the story easily. I also recommend you to stop in different sentences and make your students finish it.

After the storytelling, you can do many different things. There is a huge variety of materials online for free, but I give you some other ideas!

  • Use the Films
  • Make some crafts
  • Work on the song
  • Work on the characters
  • Create a new “Gruffalo”
  • Work on the PLAY

It is also nice to have new different resources, that’s why I created a booklet with some activities and resources to do with Primary Students. Here you can find it!

I really hope you find this post useful!
