STORY MAPS (part 1)

Hello teachers!

Today I come with something Ithink you will enjoy a lot! STORYMAPS

As you know I really like to work through stories, that’s why I try to use at least one story each month. In my opinion, stories are a really good way to learn new grammatical structures, to improve listening and speaking skills  a part from widen their vocabulary.

It is true that before using proper #storymaps, we must do some previous activities, and that’s what I am sharing with you today!

At school we are beginning a new topic related to stories and tales, and I had the idea to share all the activities with you! So, let’s get started!

The first activity is very simple, but in my opinion, really important. The idea is to analyze the most important things about stories.

  • Go to your school library
  • Make your students join in groups of 4 or 5
  • Select books that have some characters and a clear topic.
  • Display some books to each grup.
  • Make them analyze their books.

To do the activity, you can use the following worksheets. There are two levels!

Worksheet 1: In this worksheet, your students have to write the title and the author of the book, identify the characters and draw the cover of it.

Worksheet 2: In this worksheet, your students will work on the title, the author, the characters, the cover and the topic of the book they choose.

The other activity I recommend you is about characters.

The main idea is to make a list of all the characters we know, or we find in the books.

You can do it in many different ways, depending on your students English level.

  • Create a wordcloud . Here you can see an example.
  • Display a corner in your classroom and make your students writecharacters on it.
  • Make your students create a list of characters.

The second part of the activity is to divide the characters in two groups.

Depending on the age of your students you can adapt the activities…

OPTION 1: Give them some pictures of characters they already know. And tell them to classify the characters into 2 groups. ( GOOD and BAD).

OPTION 2: Make your students think about good and bad characters they already know. They can write a list of all the characters they can remember.

That’s all for today!

Next week more about #storymaps!
