Winter is coming… Scarfs, gloves, hats and lights everywhere!
It’s cold, and one of the most amazing things to do with this weather is to have a HOT CHOCOLATE!
One week and two days before Christmas, and all teachers in the world are buzzy searching songs, activities and crafts to do! I am one of those crazy teachers who is searching “different” activities and songs to do with children… because… I don’t want to do the same every year…
I have been searching many activities, songs and crafts to do with students at school, so here I share some of my favourites!
1. THIS IS MY CHRISTMAS!
In this activity children have to bring a picture of themselves in Christmas. The objective is to share how they celebrate Christmas to the rest of the students; what they eat, what they sing, how they decorate their house… It’s an interesting activity to make students speak in public and to know more about them.
2. GINGERBREAD HOUSES!
This is one of my favourite activities, because I love cooking… I recomend to do it with a recipie, this way children have to follow some steps to build their gingerbread house. You can do it in groups or in pairs. Moreover you can turn the activity into a competition!
3. VOCABULARY AND SENTENCES!
Another interesting activity is to make students write sentences with new vocabulary about Christmas. I have done this activity with Polar Express vocabulary. You can stick some papers on the wall and write one word on the top of the paper. Then all students have to build a sentence with that word. It’s a way to make them use the new vocabulary.
4. POLAR EXPRESS TRAIN PARTS
As you know, I am obsessed with Polar Express, so I create one activity to work in the Polar Express Unit, a little bit different… The idea is to study the parts of a Train… To do it, You can use the following drawing and make them find the main parts of the train.
5. WALKING IN A WINTER WONDERLAND
Talking about songs, I decided to do this song with my students, because I think it’s very cute. The truth is that there are many versions, but one of my favourites is the one made by Jason Mraz. I think it’s perfect for young students, because he sings very slowly. At the begining it can be difficult to learn, but if you think about gestures they can do, your students will learn the song with no problem!
If you are thinking about a simple and different craft to do, here I share this amazing star! I think it’s very cute and easy to make. I did it with my 3rd graders and it was easy !
7. DEAR SANTA…
To practise the writing skill with your students, a very useful activity is to write a letter to Santa. It’s a good way and a good chance to make them improve! Motivation is one of the magic clues ! To do this activity is better if you show an example to explain the structure. I would do it with 3r or 4th graders!
8. CHRISTMAS BOARDS
9. CHRISTMAS GIFTS!
I think this is one of the most beautiful gifts ever! If you want to give your students something special for Christmas… I think this is the best option!
10. THE STICK MAN
If you love storytelling… here I show you one of my favourite tales for Christmas! Of course by Julia Donaldson… It’s a fantastic tale that can be used as a theatre!
